When you keep opening the same report
Stop opening reports: pin them to the dashboard and subscribe to the briefing
Northwind weekly tickets gets opened by hand most mornings, so it stops living only in Reports and gets pinned to the dashboard instead. A Briefing subscription does the same job for a story instead of a chart: pick a domain once under My Settings, and it starts feeding your Command Center home without another click. Both doors sit a few clicks from where the habit already lives, and once they are set, checking in replaces going to look.
What you will have
- Pin a saved report straight from Reports > Saved Reports so its chart lives on your own dashboard from now on.
- Find that pinned widget inside Your dashboard, and reach the full report again with one click on its title.
- Open Customize and read the controls that reorder, hide, resize, or remove any pinned widget.
- Subscribe to a Briefing domain from My Settings > Briefing, with or without a Configure step first.
- Read Your subscribed domains for what reordering, Enabled, and Remove actually do to a subscription.
- Tell apart the dashboard's always-on While you were away card from the personal sections a Briefing subscription feeds.
Why it works this way
While you were away is a different animal from a Briefing subscription. It is an always-on ticket digest that runs whether or not anyone has subscribed to anything; Today's priorities and Your SLA pressure, added under My Settings > Briefing, feed a separate personal section instead, not this card.
Trash, in Customize, only removes the dashboard widget. The report itself stays exactly where it was, under Reports > Saved Reports, untouched; deleting the report itself is a different, separate action back on its own Actions menu.
A Briefing domain is personal, not shared. Subscribing to Today's priorities or Your SLA pressure adds a section to your own Command Center home only; a teammate's dashboard is unaffected, and their subscriptions never show up on yours.
Steps
Open Reports > Saved Reports and find the report you already run every week.
Northwind weekly tickets sits alongside two System-built, Shared reports, M365 Seats by License (SKU) and M365 Seats by Client. Each card names the report, its data tag, who built it, and when.
Open Reports > Saved Reports and find the report you already run every week. Open its Actions menu and click Pin to Dashboard.
The same menu holds Edit, Duplicate, and Delete. Pin to Dashboard is the one that matters here: it puts this report's own chart on your dashboard.
Open its Actions menu and click Pin to Dashboard. Open the Dashboard and expand Your dashboard.
Northwind weekly tickets now renders as its own widget, bar chart included, with the same title link back to the full report. View still reads Dashboard (default); a pin lands on whichever dashboard is selected there.
Open the Dashboard and expand Your dashboard. Click Customize to see what you can do to that widget without leaving the page.
The instruction line spells out all four moves: drag to reorder, click eye to hide, click size to resize, trash to remove. The widget's own row carries a drag handle, a 2x2 size button, an eye, and a trash can, in that order.
Click Customize to see what you can do to that widget without leaving the page. Open My Settings > Briefing and pick a domain from the Catalog.
Your SLA pressure reads Tickets you own that are due in the next 4 hours or already breached, scoped me, with a plain Add button. A domain tagged pod, like Pod day or Pod unusual tickets, shows Configure & add instead and asks for that pod first.
Open My Settings > Briefing and pick a domain from the Catalog. Confirm the subscription in the dialog that opens.
Add and Configure & add both open the same kind of dialog before anything is added: the domain's name, its one-line description, and Subscribe. Nothing is added until Subscribe is clicked.
Confirm the subscription in the dialog that opens. Read the result under Your subscribed domains.
Today's priorities and Your SLA pressure now sit here, each with its own up and down reorder arrows, an Enabled toggle, and Remove. Disabling one keeps the subscription; Remove is the one that takes it off the list.
Read the result under Your subscribed domains. Back on the Dashboard, read While you were away as the day's own story.
It already read Quiet since your last visit - nothing needed me. 6 need a human - start below, with the same six tickets Start here lists beside it, before either domain in this walk was ever subscribed. It is the one place this whole flow never had to touch to already tell the day's story.
Back on the Dashboard, read While you were away as the day's own story. Know what Approvals & subscriptions shows when a subscribed domain has nothing to say.
This collapsed section, further down the dashboard, is where every subscription from step 7 actually renders day to day, alongside any approval cards. A domain with real content just shows it; a domain with nothing this time says why instead of rendering an empty box: not yet permitted for your role (a subscription that outlived the permission grant that made it), already covered by the numbers row above (nothing left to add there), or a subscription that could not load right now (an operational problem, not a permission one). A genuinely unsubscribed account - none of the domains in step 5's Catalog ever added - reads a plain Nothing subscribed yet with a Pick some domains link instead of any of those three reasons; on this walkthrough's own account the section never reaches that state, since Firm pulse and Yesterday's recap ship subscribed by default alongside the two this walk adds.
Note: Source: src/app/admin/briefing-view.tsx (the emptyKind switch and its four messages) at 4b5e59a2f. The three per-reason messages were not reproduced live this pass - reaching role-restricted or unavailable needs a permission change or a producer failure this walkthrough's own account cannot trigger through the ordinary UI, and this account's Action queue populates independently of its subscriptions, so simply removing them here does not reach the plain not-subscribed message either.Know the two things above While you were away: the numbers row, and Get set up.
A thin row of your own numbers sits right under the headline: my open, SLA risk, customer replied, and unassigned, plus revenue this month for a leader account - each one a link straight through to its own filtered list, not just a count. A trial not yet fully configured also shows a Get set up checklist above everything else on the page, item by item, each one checking itself off the moment it is genuinely done; it disappears once the list is complete.
The pages behind each click
If it did not work
- If the widget is not where you left it, check View at the top of Your dashboard; System dashboards are shown by role and personal dashboards are your own, and a pin lands on whichever one is currently selected.
- If a Catalog row shows Configure & add instead of Add, it needs a client or pod first, marked under its name as params: orgId or params: podId; a plain Add row needs nothing.
- If a domain is missing from the Catalog entirely, the Catalog only lists domains you have permission to see; it is not a lack of the feature.
Questions this page answers
How do I customize my dashboard?
Click the Customize button, then drag to reorder, click the eye to show/hide, or click the size button to resize widgets.
How do I switch dashboards?
Use the View dropdown at the top of the dashboard to switch between dashboards; it appears once you have more than one. System dashboards are created by admins and shown by role, and personal dashboards are your own.
What does the dashboard show?
It opens with Elise's handoff: "While you were away" lists what she already did, and "Start here" ranks what still needs a person, each with a reason. Under that sits a thin row of your own numbers - open tickets, SLA risk, and customer replies waiting; leaders also see unassigned tickets and revenue this month - and every number there links to its filtered list. Below, two collapsed sections hold more: "Your dashboard" is a widget grid you build yourself, and "Approvals & subscriptions" holds approval cards and subscription cards. If a subscription has nothing to show, the card says why instead of looking empty: not yet permitted for your role, already covered by the numbers row above, or a subscription that could not load right now. Until your instance is fully set up, a "Get set up" checklist also shows above all of this.
